the good coach is a coaching knowledge platform
for a community of sophisticated coaching practitioners to learn and share their personal insights of how their coaching practice works for them in their market and business.

Our story

Just 1% is the threshold for a microtrend to occur – “the small force behind today’s big changes”*. We truly believe that coaching is one of the ways that can make a difference in someone’s life.

Why 1%? the good coach began in 2012. In the same year, the recorded global population exceeded 7 billion for the first time and this number will rise. To touch just 1%, approximately 70 million individuals around the world can be inspired by a coaching conversation anytime, anywhere and through any media.

  • To enable just 1% of the growing coaching practitioner community of approximately 50,000 coaches (ICF, 2021) to continue inspiring their clients with sustainable coaching conversations through good practice, integrity and professionalism the good coach wants to contribute and make this vision happen.

We believe that giving coaching practitioners a safe space to reflect and courageously explore their own patterns of behaviours and actions will further empower them to acknowledge their unique coaching style, recognize their exceptional coaching qualities and strengths and confidently clarify their optimal impacts from coaching through dialogue and writing. This will hopefully lead to coaches having both a professionally and personally fulfilling, satisfying and balanced career.

A decade after the good coach began we can report that the good coach knowledge platform has published 420 blogs by 87 coaching practitioners and reached nearly 75,000 practitioners. We have also published 3 books, 1 bi-lingual magazine and 1 coaching survey as a community and run a full-day coaching symposium in HK.

Reaching just 1% of the population will help keep the principles and practice of coaching sustainable for future generations to benefit from.

Our Mission

  • To create a safe space… for reflection, growth and learning

  • To serve our clients… with compassion, responsibly and professionally

  • To inspire moments of courage and action … through empowering, meaningful coaching conversations and the act of writing

Our Values

  • Courage: The state or quality of mind and spirit that enables one to act in face of danger, fear or change, with self possession, confidence, and resolution.

  • Integrity: Is a concept of ‘walking the talk’. Integrity is regarded as the honesty, justness and accuracy of ones actions. It is the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished.

  • Humble Engagement: A state of being in flow with your own vitality, creativity, and passion; joyfully embracing life in all its colours, richness, and simplicity with humility.

  • Continual Growth: The process, through curiosity and learning, of developing or maturing physically, mentally and spiritually from one state of being to a more desired one.

  • Gratitude: To be filled with the feeling of thankfulness, and compelled by the expression of appreciation.

Our Goals

  • To touch 1% of the global coaching population with inspiring reflections of coaching conversations. (Ongoing)

  • To engage with 1% of the coaching practitioners in joining us in this work. (Yes)

  • To give back to the local/national/international community in significant ways (Yes)

Our Operations

the good coach is a private community initiative owned by the Director of the good coach and works with volunteers to maintain the day to day operations of the platform. It’s operated on a shoestring in order to freely publish all reviewed coaching practitioners blogs under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. In addition, as a free service to our featured practitioners, the good coach does not ask for or request any referral fee from either party. This often meant that it was challenging to scale up our operations yet retain our independence and be open to the diversity of approaches that exist in coaching. In 2024, with a sad yet thankful heart, the good coach will no longer continue publishing any further blogs on the platform.

The platform will continue to be maintained as I truly believe that this is valuable to any of our peers, current and in-waiting, and all of the published pieces will be a useful resource to them when they're unsure of what to do in their practice, or simple to enhance the CPPD. If there is still interest and engagement in the future, hopefully the good coach can find a way to reboot itself in a new form that continues with the good foundations it started with and continue innovating.
